THE 2001 WINNERS
Thank you for casting your vote to decide the winners of the Hollywood Movie of the Year Award®, Hollywood Actor of the Year Award® and Hollywood Actress of the Year Award®. The public voted at Entertainment Tonight Online's website, etonline.com, at Variety's website, variety.com and in over 1,800 Hollywood Video retail stores nationwide. There were six nominees in each category to choose from. They are listed below on this page after the winners. The winners received their awards at the Hollywood Movie Awards Gala Ceremony on August 6, 2001, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Hollywood Movie of the Year Award® MOULIN ROUGE
Twentieth Century Fox's Moulin Rouge, directed by Baz Luhrmann, is a stylish and highly popular love story, starring Nicole Kidman as Satine, the star of the Moulin Rouge club and the city's most famous courtesan, and Ewan McGregor as Christian, the young Bohemian poet who falls in love with her. The story is set in the now legendary and infamous club Moulin Rouge at the end of the nineteenth century while using contemporary twentieth century music.

Hollywood Actor of the Year Award®
EWAN McGREGOR
Ewan McGregor has risen to prominence rapidly over a short period of time due to his performances in such films as Trainspotting, Emma, George Lucas's Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace, and most recently his starring role as Christian in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge.
Ewan McGregor was born in 1971 in the Scottish town of Crieff. He joined the Perth Repertory Theatre, and then trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, which led to a role on television in Lipstick on Your Collar. He made his film debut in Being Human in 1993, and his breakthrough role in motion pictures came with the role of Alex in Shallow Grave in 1994. Mr. McGregor's other feature films have included Brassed Off, The Serpent's Kiss, A Life Less Ordinary, Nightwatch, Velvet Goldmine, Rogue Trader, Eye of the Beholder, and Nora. His upcoming projects include Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down and Star Wars Episode II.
Hollywood Actress of the Year Award®
NICOLE KIDMAN
Nicole Kidman was born in 1967 in Hawaii and grew up in Australia, where she began studying drama at an early age. As a teenager, she worked regularly at the Philip Street Theater, and she made her motion picture debut in the Australian film Bush Christmas when she was 16. She made her American feature film debut in 1989 opposite Sam Neill in the thriller Dead Calm.
In the following year, Ms. Kidman starred opposite Tom Cruise in Days of Thunder, which led to their courtship and marriage. Since then, Ms. Kidman's films have included Billy Bathgate with Dustin Hoffman, Far and Away with Tom Cruise, My Life, Batman Forever, Gus Van Sant's To Die For, for which she won a Golden Globe and much critical praise, Jane Campion's The Portrait of a Lady, Mimi Leder's The Peacemaker, and Stanley Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut, which also starred Tom Cruise. Currently, Nicole Kidman is winning accolades and admirers for her acting ability in the starring role of Satine in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge from Twentieth Century Fox.

Star of "Hannibal," the sequel to "The Silence of the Lambs" (for which he won an Oscar). Sir Hopkins also received Academy Award nominations for "Amistad," "Nixon," and "The Remains of the Day."
BEN KINGSLEY
Star of "Sexy Beast." Won an Academy Award for his performance in "Gandhi." Other films include "Rules of Engagement," "The Assignment," "Schindler's List," and"Bugsy" (for which he received an Oscar nomination).
EWAN McGREGOR
Star of "Moulin Rouge." His other films include "Eye of the Beholder," "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace," "Nightwatch," "Brassed Off," "Emma," and "Trainspotting."
