H'w'd film fest bows council
Group to hold humanitarian symposium Oct. 5-6, 2002
The Hollywood Film Festival has established the Hollywood Humanitarian Council with a goal of "giving a voice to the voiceless through the visual medium." Council is part of the Hollywood Film Foundation, a nonprofit org created by the fest to support and promote culturally diverse filmmaking.
HHC will organize a two-day Hollywood Humanitarian Symposium (October 5-6) during the sixth anual Hollywood Film Festival. Symposium consists of feature and docu screenings on social and humanitarian themes as well as panel discussions.
Council members will also make recommendations regarding the recipient of the Humanitarian Award, presented by the fest during its Hollywood Movie Awards gala ceremony. Last year's recipient was Nobel Peace Prize laureate José Ramos-Horta.
