'Giving a Voice to the Voiceless Through the Visual Medium And Highlighting Social and Human Injustices'

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The Hollywood Film Festival announces the establishment of the HOLLYWOOD HUMANITARIAN COUNCIL.

The Council was created to give a voice to the voiceless through the visual medium, and it is part of the Hollywood Film Foundation -- http://www.hff.org, a non-profit organization, which was created by the festival to support and promote culturally diverse filmmaking.

"It is crucial that we support filmmakers who, against all odds, are able to memorialize important moments of human history," festival founder Carlos de Abreu said.

The Hollywood HUMANITARIAN Council organizes a two-day "Hollywood Humanitarian Symposium" (October 5 and 6, 2002) during the 6th Annual Hollywood Film Festival. The Symposium consists of feature (fiction) and documentary (non-fiction) screenings on important social and humanitarian themes, as well as panel discussions that include major figures from the Hollywood and world communities as participants.

The Council members will also make recommendations regarding the recipient for the "Hollywood Humanitarian Award," which is presented by the festival during its Hollywood Movie Awards Gala Ceremony. Last year's recipient was Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. José Ramos Horta.
