"HOLLYWOOD MOVIE OF THE YEAR AWARDS"
AND THE WINNERS ARE...
MOULIN ROUGE, NICOLE KIDMAN & EWAN MCGREGOR
THE HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL REVEALS
ITS HOLLYWOOD MOVIE OF THE YEAR, ACTOR OF THE YEAR, & ACTRESS OF THE YEAR WINNERS
The motion picture "Moulin Rouge," actor Ewan McGregor, and actress Nicole Kidman will be honored by the Hollywood Film Festival August 6, 2001, at the Hollywood Movie Awards Gala Ceremony.
Hollywood, CA -- July 30, 2001 -- The 5th Annual Hollywood Film Festival has announced that Baz Luhrmann's "Moulin Rouge" from Twentieth Century Fox will receive this year's "Hollywood Movie of the Year Award," actor Ewan McGregor will be honored with the "Hollywood Actor of the Year Award" and actress Nicole Kidman will receive the "Hollywood Actress of the Year Award."
The winners were chosen by the public voting at Entertainment Tonight Online's website etonline.com, at Variety's website variety.com, and at over 1,800 Hollywood Video (hollywoodvideo.com) retail stores nationwide.
The announcement was made today by Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival. "The response by the public was tremendous, and we're very pleased to honor their choices of "Moulin Rouge" and its talented stars Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman," said Mr. de Abreu.
The public had six nominees in each category to choose from when casting their ballots. The nominees for "Hollywood Movie of the Year" were "Blow," "Bridget Jones's Diary," "Memento," "Moulin Rouge," "Pearl Harbor," and "Shrek." The nominees for "Hollywood Actor of the Year" were Johnny Depp, Colin Firth, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Kingsley, Ewan McGregor, and Guy Pearce.
The nominees for "Hollywood Actress of the Year Award" were Kate Beckinsale, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, and Renee Zellweger.
In addition to the "Hollywood Movie of the Year Awards" winners, the Hollywood Film Festival bestows honors on other established Hollywood professionals with its "Hollywood Outstanding Achievement Awards." This year's honorees include John Frankenheimer for directing, Edward S. Feldman for producing, Tom Rolf for editing, Laszlo Kovacs for cinematography, Robert Boyle for production design, Hans Zimmer for music in film, Diane Warren for songwriting, and David Rubin for casting. The Festival will also honor Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Dr. José Ramos-Horta with its "Hollywood Humanitarian Award." The Festival will also honor actor Paul Walker and actress Shannon Elizabeth with its "Hollywood Breakthrough Performance Awards."
The Hollywood Movie Awards Gala Ceremony will be hosted by Julie Moran of "Entertainment Tonight," and confirmed presenters and guests include Michael Apted, Jacqueline Bisset, James L. Brooks, Sandra Bullock, Harrison Ford, Sally Kellerman, Penny Marshall, Anthony Minghella, Sydney Pollack, Eva Marie Saint, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott, Ally Sheedy and Charlize Theron among many others.
