'SCORPION' TO CLOSE HOLLYWOOD FEST
Woody Allen's latest film, "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion," will close this year's Hollywood Film Festival lineup, it was announced Wednesday. Opening night, Aug. 2, will feature the U.S. premiere of Christopher Monger's "Girl From Rio."
"Scorpion" stars Allen, Dan Aykroyd and Helen Hunt. "Rio" stars Hugh Laurie, Santiago Segura and Vanessa Nunes. The Australian documentary "The Diplomat" will receive its Los Angeles premiere at the festival, and its subject, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Jose Ramos-Horta, will receive this year's Hollywood Humanitarian Award at the festival's closing-night ceremonies Aug. 6.
Other films making premieres in the festival lineup include U.S. production "The Wicksboro Incident" (world premiere), Greece's "My Best Friend" (U.S. premiere) and the U.S. production "An American Rhapsody" starring Nastassja Kinski and Tony Goldwyn (Los Angeles premiere). Other highlights of the lineup include "The Zookeeper" starring Sam Neill, "Mother Viper" starring Harvey Keitel and "Pendulum" starring Rachel Hunter.
In all, 11 countries -- including China, France, Denmark and Spain -- are represented at the festival. Previously announced recipients of awards at the closing-night gala will include director John Frankenheimer, producer Edward S. Feldman and cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs. Confirmed presenters and guests include Michael Apted, James Brooks, Sandra Bullock, Harrison Ford, Penny Marshall and Sydney Pollack.

Rounding out the festival's feature lineup are "Almost Blue" (Italy), "Almost Elvis" (United States), "Children Underground" (U.S.), "Cunnamulla" (Australia), "Francisco Boix: A Photographer in Hell" (Spain); "Freaks, Glam Gods and Rock Stars ... The NYC Story" (U.S.), "Going Greek" (U.S.), "High Noon in Jakarta" (Australia), "In Search of Peace, Part I: 1948-1967" (U.S.), "Kennedy and I" (France), "Lalee's Kin: The Legacy of Cotton" (U.S.), "The Man on Lincoln's Nose" (U.S.), "My Brother Tom" (United Kingdom), "Once in a Lifetime" (Sweden), "Pedal" (U.S.), "Peroxide Passion" (U.S.), "The Pipeline to Paradise -- Qaddafi and the Politics of Water" (Poland/Germany/the Netherlands), "Rudyland" (U.S.), "Stockpile" (U.S.), "Tashi Delek" (Spain), "Wag the Dogma" (England) and "Won't Anybody Listen" (U.S.).
