Hollywood fest to honor half-dozen
Martin Scorsese, Robert Towne, Douglas Wick, Lucy Fisher, cinematographer Janusz Kaminski and composer Marc Shaiman will be honored with the Hollywood Outstanding Achievement Award by the organizers of this year's Hollywood Film Festival. The industry luminaries will receive their awards Oct. 7 at the fest's closing-night Hollywood Movie Awards and Gala Ceremony at the Beverly Hilton.
"(These honorees) have demonstrated extraordinary ability throughout their careers," festival founder and executive director Carlos de Abreu said. "(Their) work and creative vision is to be applauded and honored."
Scorsese has received best director Oscar nominations for "GoodFellas," "The Last Temptation of Christ" and "Raging Bull" and screenwriting nominations for "GoodFellas" and "The Age of Innocence." His next film, "Gangs of New York," is set for a Dec. 20 release via Miramax.
Towne received an Oscar for his "Chinatown" screenplay. He has been nominated for his writing on "The Last Detail," "Shampoo" and "Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes."
Wick and his partner and wife Fisher have worked together on such films as "Spy Game," "Stuart Little" and "Girl, Interrupted." Wick received a best picture Oscar for "Gladiator."
Kaminski has been a frequent collaborator with Steven Spielberg, winning Academy Awards for his cinematography on "Saving Private Ryan" and "Schindler's List." He was nominated for the Oscar for "Amistad" and worked on Spielberg's most recent release, "Minority Report."
Shaiman has received Academy Award nominations for "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut," "Patch Adams," "The First Wives Club," "The American President" and "Sleepless in Seattle." His other credits include "A Few Good Men" and "Sister Act."
