HOLLYWOOD FEST STEPS UP WORK
In its sixth year, the Hollywood Film Festival is expanding its role. Executive director Carlos de Abreu said Tuesday that the festival is expanding its year-round events.
"More than ever, we are committed to assisting talented filmmakers to access established Hollywood," de Abreu said. In addition to the annual festival and awards presentation, festival organizers have scheduled three events for 2002: the Sell Your Story to Hollywood Buyers, Opening the Doors to Hollywood, and Hollywood Film Conference. More information on these programs is available at www.hollywoodfestival.com.
Over the past several years, the festival has quickly increased in stature. Its 2001 awards presentation attracted Nicole Kidman and director Baz Luhrmann (winners for "Moulin Rouge"), in addition to such luminaries as Harrison Ford, Cameron Diaz and Ridley and Tony Scott.
The 2000 Hollywood Film Festival's Discovery Award for Best Documentary, "My Khmer Heart," was acquired recently by HBO. The cable network is hosting a benefit screening of the film Thursday to benefit Cambodian orphans. The event, to be held at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles, will be hosted by Danny Glover and Matt Damon.
