Hollywood, CA -- May 28, 2005 -- The Hollywood Film Festival® and ArcLight Cinemas are pleased to introduce a new monthly series for film lovers -- The Hollywood World Cinema Salon. Each month a quality film will be screened, followed by a networking session where film fans can engage in thought-provoking conversation. The Salons will be hosted by film journalist David Poland.
The inaugural Hollywood World Cinema Salon will take place Monday, June 6, at the ArcLight Cinemas and it will showcase Palm Pictures' "CRONICAS" starring John Leguizamo. The film is written and directed by Sebastian Cordero and produced by acclaimed filmmakers Alfonso Cuarón and Guillermo del Toro. The next Hollywood World Cinema Salon will be Monday, July 12, and it will feature Miramax's "Secuestro Express" written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz and starring Mia Maestro.
"Responding to the success of the festival's programming and the commitment from both the festival and ArcLight to bringing diverse and quality films to Hollywood on a year-round basis, we are committed, more than ever, to implementing our mandate: bridging the gap between established Hollywood and the global creative community," festival founder Carlos de Abreu said.
In the last two years, a total of 36 Oscar® nominations and 7 Oscars® were given to films the festival showcased and to the nominees and honorees of the Hollywood Awards®.
In addition, the annual festival will also bestow the Hollywood World Awards® to honor international filmmakers. From a list of up to 40 international films, a Blue Ribbon Selection Committee of 15 international judges will select 10 films as nominees for the Hollywood World Awards®. These films must be completed between September 1, 2004, and October 1, 2005. Last year's winners were "The Motorcycle Diaries" and "The Sea Inside."
Last year's festival was a smashing success, attracting over 25,000 moviegoers and receiving extensive coverage in all the major local and national publications, including "USA Today," "The New York Times," "Los Angeles Times," "People," "The Hollywood Reporter," "Daily Variety," "Screen International," "US Weekly" and "Newsweek," in addition to national broadcasts of "Access Hollywood," "Entertainment Tonight," E! Entertainment, "Extra," ABC, CBS, CNN, NBC and FOX, among others.
The Hollywood Film Festival kicks off October 18 for a seven-day series of screenings and special presentations with Q/A sessions at ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood. On October 24, the festival culminates with the prestigious Hollywood Awards, which honor both Hollywood and international talent.
