HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 6, 2004 -- The Hollywood Film Festival's Board of Advisors has announced the nominees for the 2004 "Hollywood Film Awards®" competition. The announcement was made today in Hollywood by Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film
Festival.
"This year's Hollywood Film Festival continues its tradition of honoring the very best talent within our community. It is a celebration of all aspects of Hollywood filmmaking and the artists who help to create its lasting legacy on our culture," festival co-chair Paula Wagner said.
The competition is comprised of three categories: The Hollywood MOVIE OF THE YEAR Awards®, the Hollywood WORLD Awards®, and the Hollywood EUROPEAN Awards.
The "Hollywood MOVIE OF THE YEAR Awards®" presented by ETOnline.com and Yahoo Movies cover the public's favorites for the year. The ten nominees are "Collateral" by Michael Mann, "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind" by Michel Gondry, "Fahrenheit 9/11" by Michael Moore, "Hero" by Zhang Yimou, "Napoleon Dynamite" by Jared Hess, "SHREK 2" by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon, "Spider-Man 2" by Sam Raimi, "The Bourne Supremacy" by Paul Greengrass, "The Motorcycle Diaries" by Walter Salles and "The Passion of The Christ" by Mel Gibson.
The "Hollywood WORLD Awards®" presented by "Screen International" cover films from Asia, Africa and Latin America. The ten nominees in alphabetical order are "2046" (Hong Kong/China) directed by Wong Kar-wai, "3-Iron" (South Korea) directed by Kim Ki-duk, "House of Flying Daggers" (China) directed by Zhang Yimou, "The Motorcycle Diaries" (Argentina/Chile/Peru/US) directed by Walter Salles, "Maria Full of Grace" (Colombia/US) directed by Joshua Marston, "Memories of Murder" (South Korea) directed by Bong Joon-ho, "Nobody Knows" (Japan) directed Koreeda Hirokazu, "Old Boy" (South Korea) directed Park Chan-wook, "The World" (China) directed by Jia Zhang-ke and "Zatoichi" (Japan) directed by Takeshi Kitano.
The "Hollywood EUROPEAN Awards" presented by Screen International and Filmfestivals.com cover films from Europe. The ten nominees in alphabetical order are "5x2" (France) directed by Francois Ozon, "Bad Education" (Spain) by Pedro Almodovar, "The Consequences of Love" (Italy) directed by Paolo Sorrentino, "Head-On" (Germany/Turkey) directed by Faith Akin, "A Hole in My Heart" (Sweden) directed by Lukas Moodysson, "Look at Me" (France) directed by Agnes Jaoui, "My Summer of Love" (UK) directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, "The Return" (Russia) directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev, "The Sea Inside" (Spain) directed by Alejandro Amenabar and "Vera Drake" (UK) directed by Mike Leigh.
The favorite movie of the year will be selected by the public at large at the Yahoo Movies and ETOnline.com websites, and the two winners for the World and European awards will be selected from the ten nominees for each award. A Blue Ribbon selection committee of judges from around the world selected the nominated films. The awards will be bestowed as part of the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony on Monday evening, October 18, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
