HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL UNVEILS LINE-UP: 42 FILMS TO BE PRESENTED AT 6th ANNUAL EVENT

Hollywood, CA -- September 18, 2002 -- The prestigious Sixth Annual
Hollywood Film Festival has unveiled the line-up for the 2002
Hollywood Discovery Awards competition. The announcement was made today by Carlos de Abreu, founder and executive director of the Festival. The finalists were selected from over 1,500 film
submissions and include features, documentaries, and shorts. The screenings will take place from October 2 to 6 at Arclight Cinemas (6360 Sunset Blvd.).
The Festival will have its Opening Night Premiere on Wednesday, October 2, with the World Premiere of Gore Verbinski's THE RING, starring Naomi Watts, at the Pacific Theaters at The Grove. The Festival will also present a Centerpiece Premiere on Thursday, October 3, of Jean-Marie Poire's MY WIFE MAURICE, and a Closing Night Premiere presentation of Joe Carnahan's film NARC, starring Jason Patric and Ray Liotta, at Arclight Cinemas on October 6. In addition, the Festival will screen Daniel Sekulich's documentary AFTERMATH: THE REMNANTS OF WAR as a part of its Hollywood Humanitarian Symposium, chaired by Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Jody Williams and sponsored by the European Union Commission, at Arclight Cinemas on October 6.
The Hollywood Film Festival, in alliance with the European Union Commission, has focused on celebrating European Cinema during the Festival, with the EUROPEAN FILM SHOWCASE and the "Hollywood European Film Award," which will be bestowed during the prestigious Hollywood Movie Awards Gala Ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday, October 7.
The Festival's program includes films from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, India, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States among others. "The films that were selected for the Festival are truly outstanding and showcase a wide array of talented filmmakers," commented Mr. de Abreu. "This year's line-up will present an excellent cross section of independent cinema from Europe and around the world," he added.
The Festival's film line-up will be launched on Friday, October 4, with the U.S. Premiere of BROMBEERCHEN, a Swiss feature by Oliver Rihs, the U.S. Premiere of VILLA DES ROSES, a Belgian feature by Frank Van Passel, and the U.S. Premiere of ME & MORRISON, a Finnish feature by Lenka Hellstedt. The Festival's line-up also includes AMERICAN GUN, starring James Coburn, FOGBOUND, starring Luke Perry, and HUNGRY HEARTS, starring Susan Blakely.
On Wednesday, October 2, at the Pacific Theaters at The Grove, the Festival will have its Opening Night Premiere with the World Premiere screening of DreamWorks Pictures' feature film THE RING, by Gore Verbinski, starring Naomi Watts in a remake of the highly successful Japanese thriller about a mysterious videotape filled with nightmarish images, leading to a phone call foretelling the viewer's death in exactly seven days. Wanting to know the truth, a reporter (Naomi Watts) watches the video and has just seven days to unravel the mystery. Naomi Watts and Gore Verbinski will attend the premiere.
On Thursday, October 3, at Arclight Cinemas, the Festival will
present its Opening Centerpiece Premiere screening of MY WIFE
MAURICE, by director Jean-Marie Poire. "My Wife Maurice" ("Ma Femme S'appelle Maurice"), starring Alice Evans, Gotz Otto, Philippe Chevallier, and Regis Laspales, is a French romantic comedy that is full of mistaken identities, disguises and surprises. Jean-Marie Poire will attend the screening.
On Sunday, October 6, at Arclight Cinemas, the Festival will hold its Closing Night Premiere of NARC, a crime drama by Joe Carnahan, starring Jason Patric and Ray Liotta. "Narc," from Paramount and Lions Gate Films, tells the dark story of a suspended undercover narcotics officer (Jason Patric) reluctantly drawn back onto the force to find the truth behind the murder of a young police officer. He is teamed with the slain officer's partner (Ray Liotta), a rogue cop who will do anything to avenge his friend's death. The dark underbelly of the narcotics world reveals itself in ways more twisted than either officer has seen before and it threatens to destroy them both. Ray Liotta and Jason Patric will attend the screening.
The six-day Festival includes the Hollywood Film Conference at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the Hollywood Humanitarian Symposium, which includes panel discussions, and the Hollywood Film Screenings where the finalists of the Hollywood Discovery Awards will be screened.
The Festival will culminate with the Hollywood Movie Awards Gala Ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday evening, October 7, 2002.
