Hollywood, CA -- May 5, 1999 -- The 3rd Annual Hollywood Film Festival has announced that distinguished Academy Award-winning film composer Jerry Goldsmith will be honored with its "Outstanding Achievement in Music in Film Award." The announcement was made today by Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival.

"Mr. Goldsmith's prolific body of work in the feature film arena speaks for itself. Anyone who has gone to the movies in the last thirty-five years has been treated to the award-winning music of Jerry Goldsmith," comments Mr. de Abreu. "Mr. Goldsmith is an an outstanding talent who deserves to be honored for his work as a music professional in the movie industry. He serves as a perfect example of what emerging artists should strive to achieve," added Mr. de Abreu.

Jerry Goldsmith's work over the years includes the Oscar-winning score for "The Omen" and 17 additional Academy Award nominations including film scores for "L.A. Confidential," "Basic Instinct," "Hoosiers," "Under Fire," "Poltergeist," "Star Trek - The Motion Picture," "The Boys from Brazil," "The Wind and the Lion," "Chinatown," "Papillon," "Patton," "Planet of the Apes," "The Sand Pebbles," "A Patch of Blue," and "Freud." Mr. Goldsmith has also been honored with 9 Golden Globe Nominations, 5 Emmy Awards, 2 additional Emmy Nominations, and 7 Grammy Nominations for his work in film and television.

The "Hollywood Outstanding Achievement in Music in Film" award will be bestowed on Mr. Goldsmith as part of the festival's gala awards ceremony to be held on Monday evening, August 9, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

The Hollywood Film Festival was founded by Carlos de Abreu and Janice Pennington, and its co-founders, chairs, and co-chairs include John Briley, James Cameron, Laifun Chung, Richard Donner, Gene Hackman, Peter Hyams, Norman Jewison, Ted Kotcheff, Martin Landau, Mimi Leder, George Litto, Penny Marshall, Paul Mazursky, James Orr, David Permut, Fred Roos, Mark Rydell, Quentin Tarantino, and actor James Woods, among many other Hollywood notables.

Last year's Hollywood Film Festival® was a resounding success with more than 400 film submissions. The Hollywood Discovery Awards® finalists were called "of outstanding quality" by the Los Angeles Times and culminated with the sale of the feature film "Telling You" to Miramax. The Hollywood Film Conference was considered "second to none" by Daily Variety, and in the past two years over 250 industry professionals have participated as panelists, including executives from Columbia/TriStar, Paramount, Walt Disney, Miramax, New Line, Fox Searchlight, the Samuel Goldwyn Co., NBC, Showtime Networks, Fox 2000 and agents from CAA, ICM, Metropolitan, William Morris and Writers & Artists among others. The Hollywood Film Awards Gala Ceremony took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and was a powerful and heartfelt event with over 800 guests. The presenters included Peter Berg, John Briley, James Brolin, Ted Kotcheff, Jon Landau, Martin Landau, Mimi Leder, Penelope Ann Miller, Sydney Pollack, Mark Rydell, Rod Steiger and Lesley Ann Warren, and the honorees were Shelley Winters, Richard D. Zanuck, David Brown, Norman Jewison, Dave Grusin, and Stewart Copeland. Other celebrities who have participated in the festival include Kirstie Alley, Kirk Douglas, Barbra Streisand and James Woods among others.
