Hollywood, CA.--July 20, 1998 -- The Hollywood Film Festival has announced the nominees for the 1998 "Hollywood Digital Award." The announcement was made today by festival Founder and Executive Director Carlos de Abreu. The Hollywood Digital Award was designed to honor the best film of the year that featured truly outstanding work in the area of digital visual effects. This year's nominees are Titanic, Contact, Starship Troopers, Men In Black, Batman and Robin, The Fifth Element, The Lost World, and Alien Resurrection. Last year's award was bestowed upon the visual effects team for Dragonheart. The award is sponsored once again by Caliban Filmworks, a visual effects/post-production studio in West Hollywood, CA. This year's judges include Doug Smith, Oscar winning visual effects Supervisor of Babe; Adam Howard, an EFX Supervisor for Armageddon; Rob Legato, Visual EFX Supervisor for Titanic; and Volker Engel, a Visual EFX Supervisor for Godzilla, among many others. The award will be presented at the festival's gala awards ceremony on Monday evening, August 10, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
