HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL GALA AWARDS CEREMONY
AUGUST 10 AT THE BEVERLY HILTON HOTEL

Hollywood, CA.--July 20, 1998 -- The Hollywood Film Festival has announced the nominees for the 1998 "Hollywood Digital Award." The announcement was made today by festival Founder and Executive Director Carlos de Abreu.

The Hollywood Digital Award was designed to honor the best film of the year that featured truly outstanding work in the area of digital visual effects. This year's nominees are Titanic, Contact, Starship Troopers, Men In Black, Batman and Robin, The Fifth Element, The Lost World, and Alien Resurrection. Last year's award was bestowed upon the visual effects team for Dragonheart. The award is sponsored once again by Caliban Filmworks, a visual effects/post-production studio in West Hollywood, CA.

The award recipient is selected by a committee of visual effects professionals actively working in the industry, and is presented to the visual effects supervisor and/or visual effects producer of the film judged to be the most deserving. This year's judges include Doug Smith, Oscar winning visual effects Supervisor of Babe; Adam Howard, an EFX Supervisor for Armageddon; Rob Legato, Visual EFX Supervisor for Titanic; and Volker Engel, a Visual EFX Supervisor for Godzilla, among many others.

The award will be presented at the festival's gala awards ceremony on Monday evening, August 10, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The six-day festival also includes the Hollywood Conference (panels and seminars), in which over 100 Hollywood professionals (executives, agents, directors and producers) will participate, as well as the festival's gala awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Monday evening, August 10, 1998. The evening's highlights will include a "Lifetime Achievement Award" presentation to two-time Academy Award winner Ms. Shelley Winters, the "Outstanding Achievement in Producing Award" to multi-award winning producers Richard Zanuck and David Brown (Driving Miss Daisy, Jaws, The Sting, Deep Impact) the "Outstanding Achievement in Directing Award" to director Norman Jewison (Moonstruck, Fiddler on the Roof, In the Heat of the Night), the "Outstanding Achievement in Music in Film Award" to Oscar-winning composer Dave Grusin (Tootsie, Selena, The Fabulous Baker Boys), and the "Music in Film Visionary Award" to the former drummer and co-founder of The Police, Stewart Copeland (Wall Street, Rumble Fish, Talk Radio).
